Open with... (testing a new feature)

Hi

Thank you for your tireless efforts to improve Koreader. According to the github site a new and amazing feature "open with" has just been added (highlighting is mine). I would be very keen to test it.

According to the MuPDF site, i should first set up some preferences to tune the rendering engine for Epub viewing:

MuPDF can open PDF, XPS, CBZ, and EPUB documents.
Command Line Options

-p password
    The password needed to open a password protected PDF file.
-r resolution
    Set the initial zoom level, specified as DPI. The default value is 72.
-W width
    Set the page width in points for EPUB layout.
-H height
    Set the page height in points for EPUB layout.
-S size
    Set the default font size in points for EPUB layout.
-U stylesheet
    Specify a CSS file containing user styles to load for EPUB layout.
I have the latest OTA update (v2015.11-1525-gca6a486) but cannot find it. Am I missing something? (PW3 Kindle)

hello there,

I'm used to use my left hand to hold my ereader and using my left thumb to change to the next page by swiping South->North. Since my last koreader installation (two days ago) this action trigger the bottom menu... Is there any way to disable this action ?

I know I could switch the left/right - return/forward by it's too counterintuitive for me. (And for the record, I don't do that by pleasure, I got MSD on the right arm :/)

Find a book in calibre catalog

This has probably been answered before, but I just can't find anything useful after several days of searching.

I am trying to use the "Find a book in calibre catalog" search option in the File Browser. No matter what I search for I get the response window "No match for (whatever I searched for).

If I try to browse series I get the same response. (No match for . )

I have tried using the "Find a book in calibre catalog" while in the directory I set as the home directory, which is the directory with my books, as well as other directories.

All books are side-loaded using Calibre. The metadata.calibre file is in the same directory as the side-loaded books. I can see it using Windows Explorer but cannot see it in Koreader's File Browser.

Am I doing something wrong?

By the way this is Koreader running on a Pocketbook Touch HD.

Auto generate thumbnails in EBOOK Home folder, including subs

Hello,

Is there a way to scan the full EBOOK Home folder, including subsfolders, once for all for generating thumbnails, without browsing page in file browser ?

With a large ebook library, it can be very long to generate covers, and browsing into folders.

One way would be a script, with% progression that would indicate that the device was not frozen

Power off logo on PocketBook InkPad2

Hello,

I have inkPad2 and using KOReader on it to be able to synchronize book positions between Kindle and my Android.

It works very well, reading sync as well as highlights and notes and thanks to KoHighlights I can even export all my highlights and notes out of this system.

On InkPad2 I have however a bit of an issue. I have set in KOReader to have as screen saver (power off logo) the cover of currently reading book. This works, it is however after a while overwritten by screensaver settings from PocketBook InkPad2. Where I also have set in settings to use cover of last read book. It remembers the book cover last open by default book reader of InkPad2

Do you know how to solve this? I like that only KOReader controls the screensaver (power off logo).

Koreader USB connect to PC ?

Hello, I just buy a new Kobo Aura Model N514. It is a new technology for me and i just started to understand it.
I successfully installed kbStartMenu and Koreader on it.
But I have formidable bugs !!!

The most important bug i wish to solve is to be able to connect to my PC through USB cable directly from Koreader ! At this point, I must Restart and log into default Kobo Chrome reader and from there it works fine.

If this option exists in Koreader, I dont see it anywhere and no pop up is visible anywhere. Are there some very custom settings i dont know about?

KOReader on Aura One & Patches

I bought an Aura One almost the day they were released, so have much experience there, but none with KOReader, although I would like to experiment with its PDF display.

My question: My Aura One is heavily patched, because I like to fiddle so much with the screen display. If I install KOReader, do those patches still persist when I'm in Nickel? What worries me is that it looks like I replace a key file to get KOReader installed, and am not sure whether I would be abandoning my patches or not.

Koreader fail to start

I didn't have any problems with Koreader fora long time but now when I start to launch it I get the message "Opening ---.pdf" but nothings happens and I stay on the KSM home page.
Anyone is acquainted with that problem?

Is there a "Keep one line when paging" option?

Hi there,

I recently switched from Moon+ Reader to KOReader for it's E-ink optimisation. The transition has gone well for the most part. The only thing I'm missing from Moon+ Reader is the "Keep one line when paging" option. From searching I see there is a "Page overlap" option but from what I've found that is only for PDFs (I typically read EPUBs).

Is there a way to emulate Moon+ Reader's "Keep one line when paging" option in KOReader? I find this option useful to make certain that only one page is turned at a time and it helps sentences flow better across pages (especially when the last word is hyphenated).

File names in Right to left languages

I've searched here but i cannot find a solution to this.
When I put in my Kobo+Koreader files with hebrew names the names are shown in hebrew letters but from left to right(like "seman werbeh"). Can I see them from right to left?

KOREADER current page on status bar

Hi All,

I just bought a Kobo Aura One and have successfully managed to install the latest version of Koreader. All in hope of having a good ereader to use for reading and highlighting academic PDFs.

One issue I've noticed though, is that the current page on the status bar refers to the actual first page of the book (the cover) and not the actual 'page-one' of the books content – which could in fact appear as page-10 or something, depending on the preliminary content.

So, I'm just posting to ask if there is anyway of fixing/changing this? It may sound small, but it is a significant problem for me. I'm cropping the actual printed page number out in order to have maximin page room for the content, but as I'm constantly having to reference the exact page number, I really need the 'current page' on the 'status bar' to tell me the exact page of the book.

Koreader AppImage

Thank you for this very interesting development. A month ago you added muPDF for ePubs, today AppImage. I think it will be quite helpful to make Koreader better known, at least among Linux users...

Trying it, I have two user questions.

1. Trying to enable "advanced settings" crashes immediately AppImage. I intended to change to appearance of the mini-bar.

2. The fonts that can be used include only the ones brought by Koreader (not counting embedded ones). I see no way to add some side-loaded font. Is there a way to pinpoint a default folder on the computer containing fonts and to add it (about the same way we can pinpoint a default folder on the computer to be used as a Home folder for books)?

KOReader and Onyx Boox Note

I have installed KOReader on my new Onyx Boox Note. The Note is an E-Ink device that runs Android 6.0.1. The version I now have that works is 2015.11-507-gef260f0.

I list that for reference, if anyone else with a Note wants to install KOReader. I tried installing various nightlies from the last couple of years, but each one failed to install. The Note has a quad-core ARM chip, so I used the ARM KOReader version.

I don't know if there are enough people of "Note" who want KOReader to make it worthwhile for the devs to make any necessary changes in the newest betas so that they will install with the Note. If any of them are out there, they can speak up!

The version of KOReader that I do have works well, however. Books look better on it than on AlReader, IMHO!

kobo A1 OTA update is different from nightly on web

Just sharing with you, Kobo A1 OTA update are not the same rev. as you would get from website nightly.
It took me some time to figure this (Basically despite updating on OTA, which I thought are the same as nightly in web, I would not get the widgets that people were talking, so I suspected something going on)

I just update by downloading from web https://github.com/koreader/koreader/releases

I got latest version - koreader-beta-20180412

Then just out of curiosity tore-verify, I thought to run OTA update on Development the results:
Installed Version: 201512654
Available Version: 201512689
So it appears there is a disconnect between OTA and Website, because I just installed latest, and confirmed it is running v2015
11-1654-gc666c9f1_2018_04-12. And there are no NEWER versions outthere.
OTA settings are:
OTA Channel: Development
OTA Server: http://ota/koreader.rocks:80/

Improve image rendering/dithering on Kindle

Help. I just installed the latest nightly build (koreader-kindle-arm-linux-gnueabi-v2015.11-1654-g666c9f1_2018-04-12) in order to read cbz manga on my Paperwhite 3 Manga without having to convert to azw3 first.

Program works but the images have noticeable gray blocks around lines as well as color banding. Thought it might be an issue with the cbz file so I tried with a Kindle purchased manga (download and transfer via USB method) which I then repackaged to cbz (DeDRM - KindleUnpack - zip). Same issue. The cbz viewed via KOReader exhibits gray blocks and color banding while the DeDRM'd azw3 rendered beautifully on the Kindle's native reader.

Are there any tweaks available to improve image rendering or image dithering in KOReader?

KOReader stability issue (pocketbook)

This software has fantastic features at least for djvu and pdf files but I'm having bad stability issues reading a djvu file.

Sometimes page turns fail, sometimes page fails to clear old content, sometimes the software just freezes.

Am I doing something wrong like using a bleeding edge version?

I'm using this version: koreader-pocketbook-arm-obreey-linux-gnueabi-v2015.11-1564-gbfd55c7_2018-03-13.zip

Kobo Aura One Frontlight and more newbie stuff

Hi!

I'm new in the e-book scene. And I'm loving it. The Aura One handles PDFs pretty badly so I'm trying koreader. Man, this is a new world of customization and possibilities. I struggle to have time to read instead of trying to discover and use everything on Koreader. Great work guys!

I miss 2 things from nickel. The autolight, of course, I read your trying to figure it out. But my problem is the Frontlight Gesture Controller not working. Should it work? Can't find an easy way to control the light :(

Can I use pocket with Koreader? Or do I need to use other? I can't find my pocket pages and I need this featur.

OTA nightly and nickel questions

1. Is there a way to do nightly OTA updates, instead of stables or betas?

2. Can I do regular nickel updates (via OTA) and preserve everything in KSM and Koreader, or do I have to take some precaution when Kobo releases an update for nickel?

Covers in KOR file browser only showing on some epubs

Hello,
I have a Kobo Aura One, and koreader [koreader-kobo-arm-kobo-linux-gnueabihf-v2015.11-1654-g666c9f1_2018-04-12]

My problem is that only some epub files I have put into place will show thumbnails for the covers in the KOReader File Browser.

epubs that I converted from amazon books are showing the covers, however comics / manga that I am converting myself from image files to epub are not showing up, even after I've used "polish" in calibre to embed covers.

The covers are embedding correctly evidenced by the fact that the covers I'm choosing work inside nickel (the kobo interface); However the same files do not show covers in the koreader file browser. I thought it was perhaps a file size issue, but I tried a single page of a comic as epub with an embedded cover that is a smaller file size than my books, however the cover still did not show.

Any ideas? I know it isn't a huge deal, but since I am anal about media management its really bothering me.
