KOReader Dictionary Not Working On Kobo Aura One

Hello!

I'm not able to make the dictionary work on KOReader under Kobo Aura One.

Details:
  • Device: Kobo Aura One 8GB version
  • KOReader version: v2015.11-1402-g8ef783f
  • Kobo Start Menu version: 08(2015.10.27)
  • Kobo Firmware version: 4.6.9995 (10/11/17)
  • Dictonary: Webster's 1913 dictionary
  • Dictionary files:
    dictd_www.dict.org_web1913.dict.dz
    dictd_www.dict.org_web1913.ifo
    dictd_www.dict.org_web1913.dict
  • Dictionary files location: .adds/koreader/data/dict/
  • Error message: No definition found

In the KOReader search menu, under "Installed dictionaries", it clearly says "Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary".

Any suggestions?

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is another version I should be using?

The problem is that I really want Calibre Wireless and front light gestures to work. I think I am using whatever was the last stable release on May 7th. And both of those features work, which is great, but I want to be able to use Nickel too. With my current installation, Nickel won't open at all.

I struggle with installing/updating and I already have been through 3 or 4 installs, so I'm afraid to start over, but is there a way I can have both features and Nickel working?

Two questions about viewing PDFs

1. Is there a way to turn off scroll mode as a default, so that I don't have to change this for every single book?
2. I fiddled a bit with the crop settings, but I realized that it just made it worse. How do I turn it back to uncropped?

Different screensaver for sleep and power-off on Kobo Aura One

I want to set different screensavers depending on whether device is in sleep mode or it is powered off. I tried to use some hints from https://github.com/koreader/koreader...ment-261726070 but I could not work it out. Even when I put is settings file only

Dictionary doesn't work

Hello! I downloaded 4 different dictionaries and installed them according to the instructions on the wiki. They show up in the dictionary list where you can enable and disable them, but whenever I try to get a word defined, I always get empty results.

Page turn area setting in Koreader

In Coolreader you can set touchscreen command for 9 separate areas. In my e-reader I set everything other than the bottom-middle area as next-page so that I can turn pages easily using both my right and left hand.

Is there any way to set similar page turn setup in Koreader? As far as I know in setting you can set x, y, and height, but I can only manage a big area on the right side for next-page and a very small area on the left side for previous-page.


Any setup to make both the rightmost and leftmost touch-screen area as next-page (and any other part as previous-page) will work too.

But strangely, it refreshes when you switch to A2 display mode, though with poor display effect.

trouble on old kindle touch, koreader wont run via KPV

jailbreak went fine, KPV launcher was installed correctly (the screen said so), then I unzipped koreader into the root directory of kindle (tried stable, nightly, both kindle-arm-linux and kindle-legacy-arm-linux) and the koreader wont run.. every time I try to start a file thats not mobi or txt I get this Application Error "The selected application could not be started. Please try again." I tried.. tried many times. tried several different version of koreader. always the same. kindle firmware version is 5.3.7.2

any idea what could be wrong?

Kobo: Adding pdfs without them getting scanned by Nickel

So, hello Mobileread peeps. Been lurking around here, googling for solutions for various issues and questions I had. Very useful site.
Now, this is a small thing that has been irking me, and I tried to search for it, and couldn't find anything. If this has been answered, then I'm sorry and would be grateful for a link.

I keep adding pdfs to my eReader, which I read exclusively with koreader (the inbuilt pdf reader is ... not very good). However, they keep cluttering the Nickel list of books on the device, as it scans everything I add over USB.
So is there someway of putting stuff from my PC to my Kobo, such that I can read them in koreader, but Nickel doesn't "see" them. Some directory, perhaps that isn't scanned? I thought about changing file endings, but I don't know if that would also mess with koreader.

cut blue light on kobo aura one - koreader nightly

I have kobo aura one with nightly build installed koreader-kobo-arm-kobo-linux-gnueabihf-v2015.11-1457-g7feea40.zip.

I like koreader, it is awesome for reading pdfs.

However, I miss the nickel how the light changes during the day and night. I think in night time, it cuts blue light.

Is there any setting on koreader.

KA1 - koreader connect to PC to load books

I am new to KA1, and I have installed nightly koreader-kobo-arm-kobo-linux-gnueabihf-v2015.11-1457-g7feea40

Is there anyway to connect koreader to PC?
Right now, the only way I load books, is through nickel and then load the books, and restart to koreader.

Generating new database from pdf files for koreader

I need to highlight lot of texts and in laptop, I use different colors and types such as Underline, Highlight, etc as per different context.

As far as I know koreader at most suppports highlight and I can live with that. But I can't see annotations I made in koreader. Is there any programs that extracts annotations and formats in .sdr??(i guess) so I can just send all my annotations.

Do you have any tips for highlighting in Koreader?

Selected 'only swipe' now I can't have KOReader menu back

Last (or second to last maybe) KOReader nightly and KSM 09 on Kobo Glo HD. I selected the screen option 'only swipe' and at the reboot not only the touch still change pages, but I am unable to have top (and bottom) menu back. Everywhere I touch I only go one page back or forward, or get the dictionary if it is a long touch. Thank you for your help.

I wonder if there is a way to select 'swipe only' as page turn? In Nickel I find this option very useful to prevent accidental turning of pages.

Koreader on Onyx T76ML Carta+

Onyx T76ML Carta+ has Android 4 and a 6.8" screen 1440x1080.

I got Koreader installed, but there are two major issues. One is that Koreader cannot fill the entire screen. There is a fat black bar, as big as system statusbar, at the bottom edge. (The system statusbar is switched off, so there is nothing on that fat black bar.) I will hopefully be able to post pictures on weekend if needed.

I tried with "Fullscreen" option (the option in Koreader) and off, same result. I guess that perhaps Koreader needs to calibrate the screen.

Another issue is that night mode does not work. Koreader consistently crashes when night mode is selected. Possibly Onyx has done something to the firmware to prevent inversion of colors, because I am not getting it in other apps either where I know it can be done.

Select a hidden folder?

KOreader has asked me to select a hidden folder in the file manager, but I am unsure which directory this should be. Please tell me, should I create a folder like /documents/.kohidden which my computer, and select that as the directory in the KOreader file manager?

highlighting in KA1 - epub

I have kobo aura one with nightly build installed koreader-kobo-arm-kobo-linux-gnueabihf-v2015.11-1457-g7feea40.zip.

The highlighting feature is awesome in epub files, but not accurate. It is very hard to select words, especially at the end of the page. If I select from up to the bottom of the page - it will not show at all the option to hightlight.
What I usually do, it select from the bottom of the page go up, then it will show highlight option (of course I have to hide status bar, cause selecting from the bottom it triggers status bar).
Sometime, some words even though they are inside the selected paragraph are not grayed out for highlighting though when I check in exported file they are included.
However, I am still using Koreader, way better than nickel, even with the pain of highlighting.
Hope someone is working on this feature.

Problem with embedded styles and fonts on Kobo Aura One

AFAIK, when Embedded Style is on and Embedded Fonts are off, you can change the font styles but the paragraphs, indentations are taken from the ePub CSS.

However, I've tested in 4 ePubs and if I enable Embedded Style does not matter what Embedded Fonts option is set, the ePub is locked with all editor styles. I cannot change interline, font size, font family, only margin size.

If I disable embedded fonts, then the ePub does not respect the indentations and other important styles.

Any idea what could be happening? My version is v2015.11-1525-gca6a486. This is the last nighty, but it happened to me with the previous one (I don't have the numbers of that, sorry).

Is there any thing I can do to solve this (touching some LUA files, for example?).

Searching in koreader file browser: no back button?

When I am browsing the books in the file browser, sometimes I just want to go back to my reading but I don't find anyway to go directly back. My workaround is to go to the hamburger menu and select 'Open last document'. There is no back button or am I missing something?
