non-breaking space

Hello,

Is it normal that Koreader doesn't respect non breakable space before some signs ? (in french, we have NBSP before ? ! « and »). I love KR but really, i can't stand a ? or a ? alone at the beginning of the line.

I checked the epub, the nbsp sign was present in utf-8, I change it in html entities with no success (  and  ). Is it a known bug ? I didn't find anything about it...

a sticky quick help...

Hi

I used the latest OTA update, to be welcome by a five page quick help file. After perusing it (t's intended for beginners), I realized I could not get out of it.... Not a single menu available, even to exit Koreader.

I had to turn nasty. Connect on USB and destroy this file (in Koreader/Help) and its sdr. Then (I have a PW3) pressing a long long time the button to force a restart.

Koreader informed me on restart that it could not find this damned file and let me free with the file manager.

I am not sure that this experience will help any beginner... :)

Edit: it's worse than that. Even with normal files, all access to menus is lost... The question now is how to revert back to the previous build. Unexpected OTA indeed!!

hello,
I installed the last nightly (http://koreader.ak-team.com, 21 apr for kobo) and i can't turn on wifi. (wanted to test dropbox integration)

cog > network > wifi connection
"do you want to turn on wifi" > Turn on
(at this point, I wait 15 seconds)
Then I got this error :

Failed to initialize network control client : Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant control socket : /var/run/wpa_supplicant/eth0.

do I need to configure a file ?

Koreader defaults

I know that some items can be set as defaults. I would really like to be able to set a few others as defaults.

One is the hyphenation. Another is the contrast (darker/default/lighter). When I long press on them, it doesn't prompt. (Also the old page I read said the fine tuning can't be saved, and that would be great too, but less important.)

Is there a way to force this in defaults.lua or any other way? For this longer book, it takes a long time to change the hyphenation and fine tuning of font size. I have to press it and wait about 2 minutes.

Thanks.

How to change books text font size (kindle koreader)

Reset the Koreader settings on Kindle

Hello.

I modified some settings to test Koreader, including the font size, the landscape view and enable scroll among others.

Now I can't reach the toolbar during books reading.

When I try to click on top of the page (so in landscape mode, it is the left side of the kindle), this makes the Kindle go on the home page.
Same when I try to click with my right thumb (so in landscape mode, it is top side of the Kindle) it makes the Kindle go in his basics settings.

It is as if both the Koreader GUI and the normal Kindle GUI were enabled during books reading (I can still scroll the text, but clicking on a side will make normal Kindle GUI actions and kick me out of Koreader).

So anyone knows how I can reset the Koreader to factory settings ? I tried deleting the koreader/ and extensions/koreader folders and then unzipping again the archive, but I m still in landscape mode and the problem is still here.

Thanks for your help

Front light controls for H2O?

I searched and a thread led me to https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/2270

That page and the thread say that the addon became part of the official koreader, but I'm lost.

On my H2O, tapping in the bottom left, or swiping on the left doesn't do anything. Could someone give me more info on getting this to work?

Thanks!

text-indent sets in 'pt'

Hello,

I noticed today that some of my epubs which have text-indent css set in with 'pt' values are not indented at all. When switched to 'em' or 'px' values, indentation is displayed correctly.

is it a known bug ? I check with https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/2715 but doesn't seems related.

v2015.11-1023-g773e24f observations

I was using the 587 version for many months now with no problems, so I had no reason to update (I still use Opera 12.x anyways...) but I wanted to check all those things I read about at github's pulse, that looked really interesting.
So I updated!
I'm using KSM7 and Nickel 3.4.1 (well, I don't really use Nickel anymore, that's a big plus for KoReader isn't it? ;o)
I hope that there is no compatibility problems because of that.

Overall there are smaller and bigger improvements in many places that I think worth the update.
There are a lot of additions (plugins etc.) that I don't currently use but I have to investigate more.

The reason for this post is a collection of some things I wanted to ask and some things I noticed that I would like a little different.
Since I don't want to bother the developers with every little detail I think it could make the reader better, I didn't open issues for all these at github.
But if you think there is a reason to create an issue for any of this, I will of course do it.
Some of these apply to previous versions too, but since are still present in this version I'm including them here..
  • Checking the great Battery statistics plugin, it says at the end that the "Historical records are dumped to" a batterystat.log inside the koreader directory.
Well, there is no such file there, so I wonder how could I enable this logging?
  • Talking about the Statistics, I noticed that in all the statistics windows I have to swipe to move between pages because the tapping does not work.
Since I am used to tap to change pages in the books, this is a little annoying because every time I open one of those, I first try the tap and then I remember that is not working here...
  • I used to have an icon on the menu bar for the Power off. This was really convenient since whenever my device was sleeping the battery drops was significant, so I preferred to turn it off instead.
Now the code to add this icon is changed and I can not add it anymore.
I read some place that this option was now in Koreader. The only thing that I found was not a menu entry but [I think] the option to close the reader with long press of the power button.
This has some disadvantages for me.
First is the faster wear of the power button.
Second is that its really difficult because of the sliding nature of this button at the old Glo model. Its almost impossible to use it with gloves, and even without them, most of the time I miss it the first time.
Another problem is that when the reader is closed or is sleeping, you see the same cover, with nothing to indicate the different states. You have to guess if you slide it for the right amount of time for it to go to the state that you intended.
  • And since we are talking about a menu icon, I noticed an inconsistency at the way the menus are constructed.
All the menu bar icons are creating a sub-menu when pressed.
All except one. The "Exit to File Manager" one. The most "dangerous". Because when somebody new to the reader, try to find out what all the menu entries are doing, press it, the reader is closed and she finds herself on a browser without a fast way to return back to the book. There is History of course but is inside a menu, not Top Level.
There are two ways out of this.
One is to create a sub-menu with a single entry that says what the button will do.
The other is to just create a menu entry at the last menu (the one that has the "Exit" entry) and ditch the button.
And while we are at it a "Shut down" entry there, will be most welcomed also.
  • Another usability feature of these icons could be the return to the first sub menu.
What I mean is that, when you are in a sub-menu of the first menu that any button creates, its easier to press the icon to return to the "first" menu than to target the little arrows (which of course are very helpful as they are).
This is just a small addition that I propose.
  • I created a greek keyboard layout that I was using in the previous version by adding
    Code:

    local keyboard_layout = require("ui/data/keyboardlayouts/greek")
    at the file:
    Code:

    \frontend\ui\widget\virtualkeyboard.lua
Now this file's structure has changed, and I don't know how to load it any more. Any ideas?
  • I read at github the conversation about the creation of the "Slide to show menu" thing. I read it too late to participate, but I was wondering:
If the problem was the difficulty to chose between pressing to open the menu and pressing a link, why don't we use the center of the screen?
There is more space there to avoid accidentally press a link when you don't want to.
In fact, that was the way I had it configured in the defaults.persistent.lua file, but now is not working.
Is there a way to change this option and use my settings?

These are the things I found the first half hour that I spend with this version. Maybe I'm missing much about the way the things work.
If I find more mentionable things I will add them in another post.

Help with calibre wireless please?

Calibre shows the green instead of red for the wireless device connection, and koreader does say it connected (and it says the IP address and port 9090). But I don't get any connected status in Calibre and the send book to main memory is greyed out.

I am using the latest koreader (v2015.11-1023-g773e24f) and an H2O. I upgraded to the latest Calibre. I have shut down or disabled antivirus/firewall programs. I also tried it with checking the force fixed port box (but in koreader it still said 9090 for the port). I am not doing the optional password. They are both connecting to the same router which uses a password.

What else should I try? I need to transfer ebooks frequently starting soon.

Screensaver with Kindle?

Hello there!

Using KOReader through KUAL on my Voyage. koreader-nightly-20170430, and latest Kindle FW (don't remember the exact version, rats; it's the one that came out a few weeks back).

So my question is: since the Kindle Screensaver hack doesn't seem to work with KOReader, is the KOR's screensaver options supposed to work on Kindles? Because it does nothing on mine...

Thanks!

Hindi/Sanskrit

I noticed that there is a report on github that the rendering of Hindi texts in epub does not work, and that there is no response to this report. A reason for this is maybe that the original report does not explain what exactly does not work.

Since I have experienced the same problem, I can show you on a screen shot what is wrong. On the left side is KOReader, on the right side is nickel (epub). Just for information, the text is Sanskrit, not Hindi, but both languages are nowadays written with the same script (Devanagari). So this should not make a difference.

In this script, there are conjunct consonants. That means two or more consonants-letters melt somhow together to form a new pattern. That two consonats should melt together is indicated by a special sign that is inserted between them.

In this script, there is a special sign, called virāma. In electronic type setting, this sign is used to indicate that the consonant on its left site and the consonant to its right site shell somehow melt together (form a kind of ligature). You can see an example of such a ligature at the line 2. On the right side (nickel) the first character of line 2 is the ligature pr(a), the second character is th(a). Note: the vowel "a" is not actually written, but implied. On left side the first character of line 2 is "p" with a stroke below. The stroke below is the virāma. On this page, you can see several virāmas. In each case, the virāma should not be visible, and instead the letter above be combined with the next letter. For general information, you can for instance have a look at https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Hindi/...t_combinations.

The next problem is the short vowel "i" when it follows on a consonant. The "i" is written as a straight vertical line with a hook to the right on the top. The special thing is that it is on the left side of the consonant to which it belongs.
You can see an example of this on the right page (nickel) in line 4. The line starts with "i", next follows "r", then follows "pu". Together they are read as "ripu." On the left page (koreader), line 5 starts with "r(a)", followed by "i", and then "pu." It is impossible to read this, because you would have to read "ra" and then "p" followed by "i" and "u" simultanously.
I guess it is not in the hand of the developer of KOReader to change this. Or is it?

For those who read Sanskrit: I know that there are mistakes in the text. This is an uncorrected OCR-ed text from a scanned image.

The most stable recent device that can run KOReader?

Hi

I use Android for KOReader, I love it but you know how it goes with Android and KOReader love. They have love and hate relationship, things are not always so smooth. However I love my KOReader.

I am thinking to get another device that is just for KOReader but I want stability and performance (compared to the Android KOReader experience that I have)

I read over hundred books (almost all were PDFs) on my Android w KOReader. It works but crashes, freezes etc not the things I want when reading inthe middle of the night.

What are your device recommendations just for the best KOReader experience especially for PDFs?

Calibre Wireless connects to :9090

HI

I am trying to connect KOreader as a Calibre wireless device. But it connects to :9090 port. The thing is that 9090 is Calibre's default opds port so I do not understand what is going on here. I can seem to have a way to change to the port which Calibre runs its wireless devices services.

Upgrading KOReader

Hello all :)

I have two questions:

(1) How do you upgrade KOReader on the Aura One? Is it merely deleting the KOReader directory in Adds and then downloading the latest nightly build and extracting it to the Adds folder?

(2) When Kobo's Nickel is updated, it causes problems with KOReader menu. What would be the best way to update the Nickel firmware and keeping KoReader menu working?

Thanks :thanks:

Evernote login not working

Hi, I just set up my Aura One with KSM and Koreader, everything fine and smooth so far except for one thing:
Every time I try logging on to Evernote, Koreader crashes back to KSM 8.
Is that a known bug or am I missing something?
I have checked my login credentials and they are working fine on the website...

Every time I start koreader I see the following errors in the log:

As the result, those fonts are not in the list of fonts available to the user (in a submenu 'Choose font'). What can be the problem here?

battery statistics & sleeping

Hello,

Was wondering if it's normal the "sleeping since last charge" section in battery statistic always shows 0.00 in each item. Got the feeling my kobo doesn't sleep even when put manually sleeping (without cover and magnet). The "awake since last charge" shows the total time since last charge in spite of sleeping...

Long time to open e-book and apply setting changes

I've been using PDF documents with KOReader and it works OK.

I want to try reading KEPUB or EPUB books with KOReader but there is a problem with long rendering time when opening e-books (especially if it is a large one). Also, it takes some time to change settings e.g. font and font size. Is there any solution to the noted problems?

P.S. I am using the Kobo Aura One

Many thanks.:)
