Does one of the CSS files in /data or elsewhere govern the rendering of text on the Description screen (that contains the descriptive metadata visible on the metadata screen in Calibre and in the epub's opf file) that's accessible from, among other places, the Book Information screen for each book? Mainly, I want to create space between paragraphs so that multi-paragraph descriptions don't all look like one paragraph. I can do this by manually adding one space paragraphs in Calibre or in the opf directly, but it would be nice not to have to bother with that.

Cool Reader Engine
I see that KOReader uses the CREngine. I'm trying out KOReader and Cool Reader on my android tablet.
It seems like Cool Reader app is lagging behind on CSS support compared to KOR. Is there a plan for it to catch up?
Are there any other apps using the version of CREngine that KOR uses? I'm loving the reader, but would like a different file browser/library view.
Thanks!

Better font management
There are many things I can do on the fly with KOreader when I am reading a book. But I don't have a clue about this: I am reading a book where a special font type is used for letters. I would like to keep it for knowing that I am reading a letter, but I want to overwrite all other fonts with my custom font choice. Do you have any idea how to do it without trying to edit the book outside KOreader? The most comfortable solution would be a font list in which I could tick the ones I want to keep. Not only a single option to disregard all embedded fonts, as it is now.

KOreader "No reader engine" on PW1
The development builds after 2020.12 doesn't work for PW1. It restructures the cache, reload all cover thumbnails, then I get an error message "No reader engine for this file or invalid file" whichever book I want to open. The only solution is downgrade to the latest stable, however, no cover is shown after that.

KOReader "Screen DPI" setting
The "Screen DPI" setting of KOReader is rather peculiar. I assume its main function is the scaling of the UI buttons/text with content having its separate setting in "Zoom (DPI)", but for some reason it also affects content font size, but specifically only fonts with no absolute size.
I tried to find out how "Screen DPI" is actually changing that font size, so I took a ruler and measured the length of a sample sentence while iterating through the DPI values. I got these values:
120 DPI 3.8 cm
Custom(288) 5.1 cm
320 DPI 5.3 cm
Auto 6.1 cm
480 DPI 6.4 cm
640 DPI 7.4 cm
Doing a linear regression gives approx.
SentenceLength = 0.007*DPI + 2.96
so the used Auto value calculates to ~ 448 DPI.
Now I'm wondering:
- How come changing the DPI doesn't linearly scale the content font size, double DPI, double size?
- Why would 448 DPI be chosen in Auto mode when my tablet is 288 DPI.
- Why isn't the used DPI value shown in the menu like "Auto DPI (448)". It just says "Auto DPI".
The source in "screen_dpi_menu_table.lua" goes like
but it shows the DPI value neither on my android nor on my PW4.

Problem with ocr
Hi,
I have installed ell.traineddata and grc.traineddata into koreader/data/tessdata, but KOReader doesn't recognize a scanned pdf I have in Ancient Greek, even I have switched on the "Forced OCR".
I would also like to ask why there are only two options for "Document Language", English and Chinese?
Thank you for your help!
P.S.: Let me wish you all a blessed new year. May the light of the newborn Christ illuminate your heart in a dark hopeless world! (sorry if it is not politically correct)

Bluetooth wireless presenter + android (or kindle paperwhite + koreader compatibility
In my quest to be ever lazier, I purchased a tablet bedside arm holder which lets me read & browse from just my bluetooth mouse & keyboard. i hope this also helps me read more books due to ease of use.
anyways i'm wondering if anyone has purchased those bluetooth wireless presenters that just have the function for next/previous page and hooked them up to either a
1) android 10 tablet
2) a jailbroken paperwhite running koreader
if so, how?
and which presenter did you get?
my laziness thanks you in advance. ;)

KOReader vs patched Nickel?
I've reached a point where I'm comfortable with the idea of installing KOReader on my Libra, but I'm curious about what advantages it offers over Nickel with the handful of patches I enable.
First, I NEVER read PDFs on my Libra - nunca, jamais, mai, niemals, not ever. I have the impression that PDF reading is a major part of KOReader's raison d'être.
Second, I read with headers and footers off - only the progress bar showing.
Third, I have advanced font control for sideloaded fonts enabled.
Given those contextual details, what am I missing out on by not using KOReader?

KoReader OPDS file support
Hi,
Just new to KoReader and I could setup my Calibre OPDS server. I managed to reach my server but I can't download any CBZ/CBR files. Simply no button to download my ebook. I read an issue talking about that and it's a known issuem but is it already fixed?
https://github.com/koreader/koreader...pdsbrowser.lua
When browsing to my KoReader files, I found frontend/ui/widget/opdsbrowser.lua and saw the code
["application/x-cbz"] = "CBZ",
["application/vnd.comicbook+zip"] = "CBZ",
["application/zip"] = "CBZ",
["application/x-cbr"] = "CBR",
["application/vnd.comicbook-rar"] = "CBR",
["application/x-rar-compressed"] = "CBR",
["application/vnd.rar"] = "CBR",
already added, so why I still can't download CBR/CBZ files?

Is there a way to sync (with say, syncthing) all settings, and history across devices
I read on my samsung s6 tablet, my kindle paperwhite and occasionally my ubuntu laptop.
I use syncthing to keep the document folder completely in sync.
I've noticed when I open a new book on one device, and then decide I want to read it on another, I have to re-open it on each device to get it to show up in history. I prefer using History view to quickly jump between books.
Is there anyway to set up syncthing to sync the history/koreader settings between devices? Which files/folders would I want to sync? And is this a bad idea for some reason?
Ideally I could decide I want to open book X on device Y and have book X populated across all history views on all devices.

KO reader Calibre wireless cannot connect
I'm using Version 2020.12-108 I just updated my ereader tonight, but it's been weeks since I've been able to get my Calibre wireless connection working, it used to work flawlessly until recently.
I get the message "Cannot connect to calibre server"
Are there any ports I should be forwarding to make it work on my router? Nothing has really changed on my side of things.
I'm wondering why this excellent feature seemingly randomly stopped working for me.
I appreciate any help.
I go to Calibre and select "Start wireless device connection" leave everything blank and then click OK then go to my "new:Calibre wireless connection" and then Connect"
This method worked for almost a year, now suddenly with recent update it's stopped working.
I tried automatic and manual with a ip and a port number, and it still doesn't work.

First tests of KOReader - help needed
After installing KOReader, I have been trying to work my way through i, seeing how it works, and if it will be right for me. The attached screenshots are all labelled "differences" because I'm hoping that the problems are no more than that, differences in how to achieve certain ends, and that the solution lies in my learning the ways KOReader can deliver.
Difference 1: As the screenshot shows, I have been unable to get a "graphical" homepage like the Nickel default, despite selecting an option that I thought sounded right. I really like seeing all the covers on display, and would love to be able to do this in KOReader
Difference 2:
Despite setting the screen>orientation options as mentioned in another thread, I discovered that on powering off and restarting, or rebooting, the orientation inversion returns
Difference 3:
This book of poems has the devanagari (L) and nastaliq (R) text presented as images. The screenshot shows the difference between the way the book opens. Also, the zooming of the image is more easily controlled in Nickel, pinch to zoom functions well to reach the best size available for reading on the 7 inch screen. The zoom in KOReader for these images seems more jerky, and less fine-grained.
Difference 4:
Saving the worst until last. This is a sideloaded copy of a book I bought from the Kobo store. The difference in rendering is pretty extreme.
All the books on my device are kepubs. Are the issues outlines above and depicted in the screenshots fixable?

Apparently unique footnote problem
Before you say search the forums or Google, trust me, I have. For about four total hours. I'm finding no one else with the issue I have. :headscratch:
So, I have a Kobo Libra H20 running Koreader. Everything works great except footnotes. I really want the popup footnotes at the bottom, but with only one exception (I'll get to that) when I set it to popup footnotes, I get only the number of the footnote and an otherwise blank box.
If I turn popup footnotes back off, they link to the footnotes section just fine. If I open the same book in Calibre, the popup footnotes work as intended.
I found only one exception (so far), where I was able to take the book into Calibre, convert it from EPUB2 to EPUB3, reload it to the Libra, and then the footnotes appeared. But when I tried that with the other book I am reading with footnotes, I still got the blank boxes.
Both of these books are purchased books that I have stripped the DRM from, and have a .kepub.epub filetype (purchase from Kobo). I did try dropping the .kepub part, but that didn't change anything, either.
I am utterly at a loss. I have not been able to find this mentioned anywhere. If anyone has any ideas, I'm willing to try! I'm no programmer, but I can copy and paste code if you're clear about where it goes, and I'm relatively proficient with Calibre.
:thanks:
