Koreader on Kobo Libra H2O. Hard button inverted in portrait

Hello,
I confirm Koreader works very nice on Libra.
Tested with KSM09.

Only one thing.
In Landscape orientation screen, right button turns pages forward => OK for me
But in portrait (left or righ handled), up button goes backward => not OK for me because i prefer forward under my thumb.

Is it possible to invert button only on Portrait ?
I think Keymapping method will change for the 2 orientations, not only one.

Thanks for your advices :)

best device for koreader

Hi,
I've recently stumbled over koreader and would very much like to start using it.
Problem is, my kindle has long been updated to a problematic firmware version. And before I risk bricking it, I would rather give it to someone in my family (demand is definitely there).
So I'm looking for a new ereader.

Since I would like to get a device with more than 6in screensize, candidates are the kobo libra h2o and the pocketbook inkpad 3.

As far as I can see, koreader is made mostly with kobo devices in mind. I would have already bought the libra, but potential PWM (forma apparently had it - huge no-go for me) is keeping me doubtful.

Can you help me with recommendations here?
How is the compatibility of koreader and pocketbook devices?
Anything I should be aware of?

Does anyone have an update as to when KOreader 2019.10 will be released? Recently purchased the Kobo Libra H2O, and the current version of KOreader immediately crashes on it.

Thanks!

Trouble at Installing Koreader to Kobo Libra

Hi everybody,

I just got my Libra and i am trying to install koreader on it. However, I couldnt make it :D

The steps i took are:

I have downloaded koreader-kobo-2019.09.3-84

I have installed KFMon by extracting its files. Then my libra rebooted so i think it was successful :D .

Then I extracted the koreader i have downloaded to libra's root file but it did not rebooted so i have read the note at the one click install thread which say i have to prevent nikel from checking hidden files. To do that i have appended the code given to do that to Kobo eReader.config file. It looks like in the picture at attachment.

Later, i have deleted koreader from Libra, and unplugged libra. Then i plugged it again, extracted the koreader files again .However, it still did not reboot :(.

I feel like i am missing a simple thing.

I will be very happy if anyone can help.Thank you :)

Hi!

After downloading and using KOReader, it was immediately a tenfold improvement to viewing PDF files compared to Nickel, I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into the project on Github!
That being said, software is almost never finished, in my free time I will be contributing to KOReader, if you can think of any improvements, bugs or any features you would like to see, please let me know and I will try my absolute best!

Page turning request

Thanks for a fantastic ereader. I'm using it on an Icarus andrroid e-reader.
I would like to have an option to be able to tap on either side (not just corners) to move forward in a book. In other words, change the left side tap to go page forward instead of back. This is helpful when holding in either hand.

thanks

KOReader 2019.10 and Kobo Libra: Upside down and reversed!

Installation was a snap with the one click script and KOReader launches...afterwards things get tricky.

KOReader's display orients itself upside down to the position of the Libra reader itself -- portrait and landscape.

One really enters the looking glass ;-) upon interacting with KOReader's menus as gestures and taps are seemingly registered and mapped to menus and controls 180 degrees from where they actually occur. For instance, an upside down menu item at the top of Libra's screen is invoked be touching the bottom of the screen.

Anyone else with a Libra and KOReader experiencing similar funhouse tendencies?

Koreader on Onyx Boox Nova Pro questions

I'm loving koreader again (used in in the past on other ereaders), but have two issues that, if solved, would make it perfect for me.

First is the top bar type size. ["cre_header_status_font_size"] = 14, in settings.reader.lua doesn't have any effect.

Second is that I use this remote:
https://www.amazon.com/LZYDD-Wireles...460264&sr=8-10

Volume up and down turn the pages forward and back, which is fine, but the shutter is easier to use because of size. In other programs (Moon +, for instance) the shutter activates page forward. In koreader it causes not only a page forward, but also a toggle of the screen touch. Once will toggle it on or off and turn the page; the next press will toggle it back and turn another page forward. I'd really like to inactivate that touch toggle.

On the Nova Pro I'm not getting a menu option for the screensaver, but it's picking up the system screensaver which I save as a screenshot of the book cover. Having the screensaver menu option would be nice and I'd love to have the book cover shown without having to make a screenshot every time I change books, but the other two are more important to me.

Any ideas would be most welcome! Thanks!

KOReader on Nook Glowlight+?

I have a few questions about KOReader on the Nook Glowlight+ (7.8 inch):

Which version would work?
Do buttons work?
Can light be adjusted?

I'm very familiar with KOReader and have it on my various Kindles. I am looking at the large Nook. Really nice device, but the SW is underwhelming.

There seems to be very little info on this Nook in MR. I am guessing that the Nook has to be rooted, and a new launcher installed, followed by Android version of KOReader.

Any pointers are welcome!

Thank you!

Koreader crashes when trying to export to Evernote

Hi everyone!

I have been using koreader for the last year and I found very useful the option to export all my notes to Evernote.

I have recently installed koreader on my new Kobo Libra without any inconvenience, but when I try to upload my notes to Evernote, koreader crashes and restart...

I would appreciate any help on this!

Kobo H20 & koreader unable to see dictionaries

$

Hi all

I am using a Kobo H20 and the latest release of koreader. I haven't installed dictionaries for a while but I did today (they used to work fine). They are in stardict 2.4.2 format, the following unzipped folders have been moved into the correct place and the Kobo rebooted:

mwh@NewAir:/Volumes/KOBOeReader/.adds/data/dict$ ls
stardict-Collins_Thesaurus-2.4.2
stardict-Oxford_English_Dictionary_2nd_Ed._P1-2.4.2
stardict-Macmillan_English_Thesaurus-2.4.2
stardict-Oxford_English_Dictionary_2nd_Ed._P2-2.4.2

If I go to the relevant koreader menu it says Installed dictionaries (0) in greyed-out text. :blink: I have also tried moving the various .dict.dz and .idx files straight into the /dict/ directory without their enclosing folders but this doesn't seem to work either.

Can somebody please advise me what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks

M

Can't see ebooks downloaded by wifi on stock Kobo reader

Sorry if this question sounds like newbie stuff but I really am. I am using a good old Kobo Glo and recently installed the wonderful Koreader. When I start a Caliber content server and download it from the standard Kobo browser I can see the book downloaded through the stock Kobo software. When I download a book using the Koreader SSH server or even the Caliber companion plugin, The book is downloaded normally and I can see it through KOreader, but I don't see it through standard Kobo software. Any idea? Firmware 4.18.13137 (30/09/19)

Screen navigation in Android Koreader

I'm running Koreader on a Nook GL3. It runs very well.

However, the way screen navigation is configured appears to be different on Android than on the Kindle/Kobo version. On a kindle, I edited the default.lua file to customize navigation. However, the default.lua file does not appear to exist on the Android version. Instead there is a file called settings.reader.lua.

In the Kindle default.lua file, I edited these lines specifically:

DTAP_ZONE_MENU = {x = 1/8, y = 0, w = 3/4, h = 1/8}
DTAP_ZONE_CONFIG = {x = 1/8, y = 7/8, w = 3/4, h = 1/8}
DTAP_ZONE_MINIBAR = {x = 0, y = 31/32, w = 1, h = 1/32}
DTAP_ZONE_FORWARD = {x = 1/4, y = 0, w = 3/4, h = 1}
DTAP_ZONE_BACKWARD = {x = 0, y = 0, w = 1/4, h = 1}

I particularly altered how the menus and the page forward work.

I cannot find anything like these lines in the Android settings.reader.lua that refer to menu tap and page forward tap control. Can someone tell me how it works on Android? Is there another file?

Make Dictionary layout look Pretty

I'm using Webster's revised unabridged Dictionary (1913) and was wondering if there is a way to make the layout look more readable. Currently most words have unnecessary indentation that make reading difficult. Here is an example:

Adulation:
Compliment may be a sincere expression of due
respect
and esteem, or it may be unmeaning; flattery is apt
to
become gross; adulation is always servile, and
usually
fulsome.

Is there a moderately simple way to correct this? If not, is there another dictionary anyone could recommend as a replacement?

It would be useful if you could separate the marker marks from the underlines.
Also, the weight of the font only allows normal or bold, not like kindle or kobo software that allows the bold to be graded

A very nice brand new footnote display

Thank you for this excellent new feature :thumbsup:

I had the luck to open a commercial book which had all the requisites and discovered a new footnotes display exactly like with a paper book (and more because you can still go to the note folder). Well, I am no too late since this feature was added to Koreader in October 2019...

I checked the difference between the code I used for ePub3 footnotes and this one. The only difference was the presence of a "ntb" class in the aside element (missing in my code).

This is mine but of course YMMV
Code:

.ntb {
  margin: 0% 0% 1% 5%;
  font-size: 0.85em;
  line-height: 130%;
  font-style: normal;
  font-weight: normal;
  text-align: justify;
  text-indent: 0%;
  text-rendering: optimizeSpeed;
}

It's surprising, but once you know it, it's just a trifle to add it and enjoy this feature.

Lots of ebook readers still do not have this feature.

:thanks: and congratulations to the developers!

How do I manually specify the fallback fonts for sans-serif, serif, monospace, etc.?

$

Based on hobnail's suggestion to test generic font families in DomesticExtremis's EPUB Feature Peeker thread, for fun, I modified the epub to add a section that outputted text solely using the generic font families of serif, sans-serif, monospace, cursive and fantasy (ex. { font-family: sans-serif } ) to see how KOReader would handle it.

Now, I know that the algorithm is for KOReader to use any fonts explicitly defined if it exists in the font folder or if it's embedded in the epub, and fallback to a single font if all of that fails. But I was wondering if it was possible to set the fallback fonts for the other generic font families explicitly?

For example, it looks like monospace is set properly and it is pulling a monospace font from somewhere (either Droid Sans Mono or Nimbus Mono; I can't tell), but it doesn't do it for the other generic font families (so if I have Charis SIL set as my default font (which is serif), it'll also use it for text set to use generic sans-serif if no other specific font is specified).

Having no explicit fallback font for Fantasy and Cursive I can understand, but as KOReader ships with a variety of serif and sans-serif fonts by default, at the very least, it should be safe to define specific fonts to fallback on for those generic families. Is there a place that I can specify that where it won't get over-written when KOReader gets updated, and if so, where? I'm assuming it'd be a CSS thing unless there's a specific KOReader application option somewhere that I'm missing?
